Information for Entrepreneurs

WorkForce West Virginia and its GREEN-UP Project partners recognize that there are many new business opportunities in the green economy and seek to assist entrepreneurs who want to take advantage of those opportunities.  Resources available for green entrepreneurs include:

  • Small Business Development Center. The West Virginia Small Business Development Center provides a wide range of free support services for entrepreneurs, including consulting on business startup, financial matters, and management and personnel issues, as well as access to angel capital, assistance with awards for small business innovation research, and small business workforce development awards.
  • Green Business, Green Jobs Accelerator. The Center for Economic Options is in the process of launching a Green Business, Green Jobs Accelerator to help West Virginia entrepreneurs start and expand sustainable businesses, create jobs, and contribute to the health and welfare of communities.  More information about this important initiative is forthcoming.
  • Green Entrepreneurship Course. WorkForce West Virginia is supporting the development and provision of a new Green Entrepreneurship course through the West Virginia Community and Technical College System and Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.  A capstone course, it will require participants to write a paper on the science behind some area of green technology, develop a green business plan and present that business plan to a panel of green business and finance professionals.  More information about the first course will be provided in the near future.
